ENVIROMENT PROTECTION ORIENTED OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES AT THE ATATÜRK AIRPORT TERMINAL

-) Frequency converter drivers are used with high power pumps to save from power, and less CO2 emission is ensured.

-) R134a gas is used with the cooling machines to help protect the ozone layer.

-) The fresh air of the building ventilation system passes through active carbon units to free them from exhaust fumes, odours and other pollutants, and fresh air is provided for the occupants of the building.

-) Chemicals used for the protection of the heating and cooling systems are carefully selected; and environment-friendly,  nature-friendly chemicals are preferred over those containing heavy metals.

-) Protective measures are used against legionella and other bacteria in the ventilation system, hot water, cooling towers and pools, and the samples obtained from these systems are regularly analysed to continually inspect compliance with health conditions.

-) The automation system installed for the heating-cooling-ventilation system in accordance with ambient and outside enthalpy ensures that the best air quality is offered in the most economic and environment-friendly manner.

-) Environmental-friendly natural gas is used as fuel, and the fuel burning quality is regularly analysed at hot water tanks to ensure maximum efficiency and minimum emission of pollutants, to protect the nature.

-) The cooling machines, ventilation equipment, pumps and all other mechanical installations are being operated and maintained in line with the supplier recommendations and standards; with building automation, to ensure healthy, economic and environment-friendly use at all times.

-) Photocell batteries are used for wet areas to prevent unnecessary water consumption, to ensure that natural resources and energy is used only in line with requirements.

-) The wastewater in water treatment system is recycled to water the gardens for proper consumption of natural resources.

-) The excess heat of the cooling machines in summer months is used for the pre-heating of the usage water, to save from energy and natural resources.

-) A waste water treatment system has been installed for treating household waste water, and 3500 m³ waste water per day is treated by biological treatment means, without using any chemicals, and released to the evacuation system. The evacuated water contains carbon, nitrogen and phosphor in accordance with the standards, and with proper chlorine disinfection, it is of adequate quality to be used for irrigation. The waste sludge is converted into brickets using filter presses, and incinerated at the solid waste incineration plant.

-) The solid wastes of the terminal are incinerated at the solid waste incineration plant of the terminal with a capacity of 900 kg/h, after the wastes that have economic value and those that can be recycled are sorted. The chimney gas is filtered at the multi-cyclone for keeping rough particles before passing through the fan; and it is filtered through water and then released to the atmosphere with proper temperature.
